Paul Budde Communication Pty Ltd.

Paul Budde is the Managing Director of Paul Budde Communication (trading as BuddeComm), a global independent telecommunications research and consultancy company, which includes 45 national and international researchers in 15 countries, and operates from Bucketty, in the Lower Hunter Valley, Australia.

Paul is frequently interviewed on radio and television current affairs and news programs, as well as by the leading national and international financial and business press. He is quoted in company prospectuses and his knowledge of the industry is a valuable resource at the governmental level.

He specialises in the strategic planning of interactive services such as video media, Internet, multimedia and intelligent and value-added networks based on telecommunications, broadband and satellite networks. His particular expertise lies in identifying how these new media can be used by organisations to enhance their competitive edge in the market and how they can be applied in mass markets. Paul holds a marketing degree from the Netherlands Institute for Marketing. His Strategic Workshop is a popular consultancy service, conducted throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Since 1978 he has been involved in writing strategic plans and market reports for many of the world's leading companies involved in the new media. He advised organisations and government authorities on the initiation, setting up and implementation of e-commerce and information services. He was involved in Europe's first broadband cable TV service in 1982 and established many public and private online services (now called Internet and Intranet).

In 1983 he came to Australia and since then has provided management consultancy services in the Asia Pacific region. During that period he also established 70 telecommunications business publications and initiated the largest telecommunications research site on the Internet.

In 1996, he initiated the Electronic and Online Services Forum. In 2001, he organised a National Broadband Summit and also initiated UtiliTel. The aim of these undertakings was to create an environment of improved understanding between major players in the industry.

He is the honorary consultant on telecommunications and broadcasting for the Australian Macquarie Dictionary and is the author of regular telecommunications columns.

He belongs to prominent national and international associations and has been involved in the organisation and chairing of various international conferences and events. At Now 2000 he received the Australian industry award for services to the industry. He was also voted ‘Industry Advocate of the Year 2000’ by the readers of Communications Day.

Paul is also Chairman of the Convict Trail Project, which he initiated in 1995, to restore, maintain and promote the 240-kilometre convict-built Great North Road between Sydney and the Hunter Valley. This has now grown into a multi-million dollar national heritage project.

In early 2001 he opened his own hi-tech executive conference centre in a 150-year-old dance-barn in historic Wollombi in the Hunter Valley
