SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Boingo Wireless, a leading Wi-Fi service provider for business travelers, today announced an agreement with JAPAN TELECOM CO., LTD. to allow Boingo's growing number of retail customers and Platform Services customers to roam onto the 820 Japanese hot spot locations that are part of JAPAN TELECOM's BB MOBILEPOINT Wi-Fi network.
BB MOBILEPOINT, which was launched on Oct. 3rd, is a joint network brand of SoftbankBB's Yahoo!BB Mobile and Japan Telecom's MOBILEPOINT.
BB MOBILEPOINT is one of the largest wireless data networks in Japan with retail and airport locations that include McDonald's Restaurants, All Nippon Airways (ANA) airport lounges, Japan Railway stations, hotels and restaurants. The agreement augments Boingo's Wi-Fi access at Tokyo's Narita International Airport.
"Japan is a key gateway to Asian business, and expanding the Boingo network there provides convenient corporate network access for the tens of thousands of business travelers and VoIP users that we serve via our Platform Services partners," said Colby Goff, senior vice president of network strategy for Boingo. "Working with an aggressive market leader like JAPAN TELECOM, which belongs to the Softbank group, ensures we will provide a comprehensive network for these users."
"We have been very successful with our Wi-Fi strategy, which is focused on adding value to our DSL-based broadband services customers through the mobility of a wireless network," said Junichi Miyakawa, Executive Vice President, JAPAN TELECOM CO., LTD. "The agreement with Boingo is very synergistic because they will bring a significant number of international users to our network, and direct these customers to our retail partners, which benefits their businesses as well."
Boingo gives business travelers the best choice of Wi-Fi hot spots in 55 countries by combining the locations of over 100 leading Wi-Fi operators into one worldwide network.
