Press Release:

Jataayu announces record WAP Traffic performance: crosses 11 Million WAP Hits/day

Press Release
News Article  March 2005

New Orleans, CTIA, March 15, 2005- Jataayu Software (Jataayu), a leading provider of mobile VAS infrastructure and terminal solutions, today announced that its WAP 2.0 Gateway deployed at Orange, Mumbai, India is now supporting WAP traffic in excess of 11 Million WAP Page Impressions per day for the HutchWorld service.

This is the highest recorded WAP traffic in the Indian mobile network and comes very close to levels seen in developed mobile markets such as the UK. In recent months, the Indian mobile market has been witnessing remarkable rise in usage of wireless data services. Some analysts believe one factor promoting this growth in traffic has been the popularity of flat-rate usage pricing employed by some of the leading operators such as Hutch.

"With this milestone, Jataayu consolidates its position as the leading mobile VAS Infrastructure provider, trusted by leading Carriers around the world", said Raj Kesarimall, Director, Jataayu, "We are happy to be able to support Orange in its network & services growth plans. Supporting around 3 Million WAP Hits/day about a year back, the Jataayu WAP Gateway deployment at Orange is now supporting just under 12 Million WAP hits/day. That’s four-fold scalability within a year, one of the fastest growth-tracks supported anywhere in the world."

Mr. Arun Tanksali, Head Engineering at Jataayu Software adds "What is remarkable about this four-fold scalability increase is that we have been able to drive this performance out of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) servers running the Linux/Solaris operating systems in "scale up" single server configurations. This amply demonstrates the level of software optimization and performance fine-tuning that Jataayu WAP Gateway has achieved on specific Hardware Platforms, with the help of our hardware vendor partners."

Mr. Naresh Gupta, Chief Technology Officer, at Hutchison, Mumbai said "We are impressed with Jataayu's flexible, high-performance technology that has consistently met our network expansion & growth plans. Jataayu WAP Gateway has enabled significant reductions in our TCO by successfully scaling up to handle subscriber & traffic growth, with minimal hardware enhancements. Their committed customer service has contributed to the ease of our service rollout."

Jataayu’s WAP Gateway is deployed at more than 32 Carrier locations around the world. Designed for the world’s largest Carrier environments, the Jataayu WAP Gateway scales to support millions of subscribers with reliable performance. The multi-component, multi-threaded architecture allows individual horizontal & vertical scaling across all components to fit a Carrier’s specific growth patterns.
