Press Release:
Motorola Enhances Fingerprint Analysis Technology Licensing Agreement
Press Release
News Article February 2005
SCHAUMBURG, Ill., and BELLINGHAM, Wash., Feb. 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola (NYSE:MOT) and LumenIQ announced the signing of an agreement to license LumenIQ 3-D imaging technology for the Motorola Printrak Biometrics Identification Solution (BIS) workstations.
Under the agreement, LumenIQ will provide its unique 3-D software module, AFIS-IQ, as a standard feature on all new installations and upgrades of the Motorola Printrak BIS. AFIS-IQ will benefit fingerprint examiners around the world by providing more tools to analyze fingerprints and palmprints found at crime scenes and from arrested individuals.
Motorola selected AFIS-IQ as it has been proven effective in providing fingerprint experts with the ability to detect more detail and unique characteristics in prints in order to solve more crimes. The patented technology converts fingerprint image intensity into 3-dimensional surface maps of fingerprints. Once represented in 3-D space, the images can be viewed with tools such as pan, tilt, roll, and zoom. This allows fingerprint experts to identify more unique print characteristics that may not have seen in a standard 2-D view.
"AFIS-IQ represents another leap forward in technology for the fingerprint industry. Motorola is proud to integrate technology from innovative partners such as LumenIQ as part of our continuing goal to provide one of the most comprehensive and accurate set of products and services in the biometrics market," stated Darrin J. Reilly, general manager, Biometrics Unit.
Steve Brinn, CEO of LumenIQ stated, "We are proud to be associated with Motorola, which has a stellar reputation for customer service and systems integration. Motorola's initiatives will result in far more accurate fingerprint and palmprint searches, which are vital as the size of searchable fingerprint databases increases."
Motorola and LumenIQ expect the AFIS-IQ module to be installed at multiple customer locations throughout 2005.
