Press Release:
Spring Communications and Cingular Wireless Announce Major Retail Expansion Agreement
Press Release
News Article February 2005
DENVER and SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Spring Communications, a leading wireless retailer and Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest wireless carrier with over 49 million customers have reached an agreement that will more than double the number of Spring Communications retail locations selling Cingular Wireless products and services in Utah and Colorado. As a premier exclusive agent Spring Communications will brand these stores as Cingular and sell Cingular products and services exclusively.
"The advantages of bringing together the #1 wireless carrier in the nation with the premier wireless distributor in the Intermountain Region are tremendous," says Jason Ellis, president of Spring Communications. "Our sales staff will provide customers the same superior customer service and wireless solutions with a focus on Cingular's attractive offers such as Rollover(SM) Minutes, the largest mobile-to-mobile calling community in the nation, and the largest voice and data network in America."
Spring Communications currently operates 45 retail locations throughout Utah and Colorado. On March 1, Spring will unveil a new look sporting the Cingular brand. Over the next two years, Spring Communications could open as many as 50 additional retail locations as a Cingular authorized exclusive agent. To complete an expansion of this size Spring may hire up to 200 new employees in the two states and lease additional retail space.
"For the past two years Spring Communications has been an excellent non- exclusive retail dealer for AT&T Wireless and now that the AT&T Wireless- Cingular Wireless merger is complete, Spring will be a valued, exclusive partner for the new Cingular Wireless," said Sue Knox, Cingular's vice president and general manager for the Rocky Mountain Region. "We're delighted that Spring has agreed to focus on selling Cingular exclusively as we expand operations in the region."
Cingular joined forces with AT&T Wireless in October to create the nation's largest wireless carrier. Cingular offers many advantages including the largest digital voice and data network in the nation, Rollover(SM) Minutes, the wireless plan that lets customers keep their unused monthly minutes and with more than 49 million customers the largest mobile-to-mobile calling community which means customers can save even more of their plan minutes.
Spring Communications and its stores will remain independently owned and operated, still providing customers with a premier wireless experience. Moving forward as a Cingular authorized exclusive agent, Spring Communications locations will be outfitted with a new Cingular look. While the storefronts will change, customers will still receive the same great service that they have come to expect from Spring Communications.
