However, standalone appliances are quickly being subsumed by appliances that combine multiple security functions in a single box. Although the security appliance market is expected to grow steadily, key segments of the equipment market are transitioning to a service focus that embeds or delivers security functionality.
 
 In the enterprise, shipments of networking equipment with add-on security modules are increasing. In the service provider market, next-generation equipment will enable operators to offer a full portfolio of security services at compelling price points.
 
 This report includes the results of a recent survey on trends and spending plans for security appliances, as well as market shares, and a five-year forecast.
