The The IDC Worldwide Professional Developer Model is a detailed model of the number of professional developers active worldwide beginning in 2004 and extending through 2009. This study answers such questions as:

How many professional developers are there worldwide?
How is the number of professional developers distributed by geographic region and major country?
In what countries and regions will there be strong growth in professional developers?
How does software spending correlate to the number of developers?

This study differs from previous-year documents on the same subject in that it includes only one historical year (2004). It only forecasts countries with relatively large estimated professional developer populations, although IDC can provide guidance on specific countries not mentioned.

"In our 2005 iteration of the IDC Professional Developer Model, we see continuing indication that emerging economies around the globe will soon get to take advantage of the information technology revolution that has become blasé in the United States and European Union," said Dennis Byron, IDC Application Deployment Software research analyst. "Never mind Bollywood, now it's 'Good morning, Vietnam' and 'You must remember this…' (Casablanca)."
